Book Review: White Hot Kiss by Jennifer Armentrout

Goodreads synopsis: One kiss could be the last

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Jennifer Armentrout is by far is one my favorite Y.A. authors! She is an incredible writer and she just keeps getting better. I fangirl over her Lux series because Daemon is my book boyfriend lol.

White Hot Kiss was so much fun to read and I enjoyed reading it. Layla is a 17 year old who is half warden and half demon. A warden is a race of gargoyles that hunt demons and keep humanity safe. Layla sometimes feels like she doesn't belong with the Wardens who adopted her when she was little because she doesn't quite fit in. She has the power to take a soul if she kisses or even if she gets to close to someone. That makes it very difficult for Layla to have relationships.

I felt two ways while reading about Layla. When she was with the Wardens she seemed just a bit childish and when she was with her friends and Roth she seemed mature. That was just how I felt while reading. Its not a bad thing but sometimes she did come off as whinny.

Zanye is Layla's best friend and he is a Warden. She wants to be with him but knows that he is off limits because of what he is. He is very protective of her and will do anything for her. A part of me thinks that he likes Layla too but we will just have to wait and find out if he does.

Roth is the sexy bad boy of the story and he is everything that Layla should not want but unlike everyone else he understands her. He is an Upper Level demon and he has been sent to keep watch of her. The school scene after they first met had me fangirling all over the place. She changes him and he doesn't realize it until it is put to the test.

At first could not decide if I was team Zanye or Roth. Most of the time I am automatically drawn to the bad/good guy but the good guy in this one has me having a soft spot for him also.  I started to go over and think about the story and by just a slight amount of points I would have to say team Roth. I can still have a soft spot for Zayne and like him also.

The Mister Book Review

Goodreads synopsis:  London, 2019. Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections, and money, he’s never had to work and he’s rarely slept alone. But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family’s noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails. It’s a role he’s not prepared for and one that he struggles to face.   But his biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who’s recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past.  Reticent, beautiful, and musically gifted, she’s an alluring mystery, and Maxim’s longing for her deepens into a passion that he’s never experienced and dares not name. Just who is Alessia Demachi? Can Maxim protect her from the malevolence that threatens her? And what will she do when she learns that he’s been hiding secrets of his own?   I will admit I did have some kind of salty feelings going int
