Book Review: Light the Way (Bk2) by Joe Kipling

I received this free book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Goodreads summary: In the near future, when the world's population has been decimated by disease, the fortunate few live inside the Boundary, while the unlucky ones are left to die on the Outside.
MaryAnn Hunter has crossed over to become a fugitive on the Outside. Hiding out in the Union headquarters MaryAnn is slowly coming to terms with the lies she has been brought up with.
But when a friend asks for help MaryAnny finds herself on a dangerous rescue mission that takes her on a terrifying journey back into the desperate clutches of the Director and the Light. MaryAnn faces a fight for survival. It's a fight she must win against insurmountable odds - but is it one she is willing to win at any cost?

Light the Way is the second book in The Union Trilogy. Set in a dystopian future The Union Trilogy is about death and coming to terms with loss, the abuse of power, discrimination and the fear of the unknown.

This is one of my favorite series. I love that the author contacted me again to read and review Light the way. If you have not read my review for Blinded by the light you can check that out here.

I loved reading this book. The dystopian setting for this story was written well. I was happy to see that MaryAnn has grown some from the first book. It still is a lot for her take and to understand but she does try. This story is written from two POVs but it does not take away from the main character.

Peter is still the fun witty guy that I loved from the first one.  He and Daryl are great together and are more like brothers. The relationship that Peter has with MaryAnn is sweet. She is like his little sister. There was one part in the book between Peter, MaryAnn, and the Watch.I don't want to spoil it but you can see the influence that MaryAnn has on him. There were a tons of others but that was my favorite one.

The journey for the characters was a big risk. The consequences were understood but for what they all believed in it was worth it to them.  The plot in this story was good and it had me guessing the whole way. I could really see this trilogy becoming a movie.

Overall I love this series and I can't wait for the next one to come out.

The Mister Book Review

Goodreads synopsis:  London, 2019. Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections, and money, he’s never had to work and he’s rarely slept alone. But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family’s noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails. It’s a role he’s not prepared for and one that he struggles to face.   But his biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who’s recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past.  Reticent, beautiful, and musically gifted, she’s an alluring mystery, and Maxim’s longing for her deepens into a passion that he’s never experienced and dares not name. Just who is Alessia Demachi? Can Maxim protect her from the malevolence that threatens her? And what will she do when she learns that he’s been hiding secrets of his own?   I will admit I did have some kind of salty feelings going int
