Book Review: The Selection by Kiera Cass

Goodreads Summary: For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

This is one of the series that I needed to finish. I started this when it first came out and never picked it back up. I'm going to finish this series and try to finish it before the month is out.

I started the audio version of this book but I really didn't like the narrator so I picked up the book instead and that was much better. America Singer is a character that I really liked. She is very stubborn but has a big heart as well. America has entered into the Selection of 35 girls to win over the heart of prince Maxon but for America, she does not want to win him over. She only did it because of Aspen and to appease him she felt she should not thinking that she would be picked. Later on in the story she is finding more of herself.

I liked prince Maxon but didn't love him and I felt the same way with Aspen but I felt a better connection with America and Maxon than I did with her and Aspen. The characters didn't really grow on me as much as I wanted them to but I still have to read the next two in the trilogy.

I really thought the writing was good and the flow of the story. This has a great bachelor feeling to it as well so if you like to watch that tv show you might like this. There is a bit of action but not a lot. With this being the first book it is more of an intro to the trilogy. I hope to see more when I continue reading.

The Mister Book Review

Goodreads synopsis:  London, 2019. Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections, and money, he’s never had to work and he’s rarely slept alone. But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family’s noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails. It’s a role he’s not prepared for and one that he struggles to face.   But his biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who’s recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past.  Reticent, beautiful, and musically gifted, she’s an alluring mystery, and Maxim’s longing for her deepens into a passion that he’s never experienced and dares not name. Just who is Alessia Demachi? Can Maxim protect her from the malevolence that threatens her? And what will she do when she learns that he’s been hiding secrets of his own?   I will admit I did have some kind of salty feelings going int
