Book Review: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan (Mangus Chase bk1)

This is my third book that I have read by Rick Riordan. I only read book 1 and 2 of the Percy Jackson series and it was so long ago that I would need to reread them. Mangus Chase is about Norse Mythology. I was happy to get into this one because it is different. A lot of times we see a lot of greek mythology so this was a good set to go into. Mangus is sixteen and has been homeless for two years after his mother's death. He was always told to avoid his uncle Randolf at all cost. Well.....Mangus got into a trap to be exactly where Randolf wanted him to be. Randolf convinces Mangus of finding an ancient sword that can only be wielded by him.  By the time he has gotten the sword, Surt, who is an evil fire welding machine comes and he and Mangus fight. It is given pretty early on that Mangus dies in the battle. 

Mangus ends up in Valhalla which is a place if a person dies heroically they will be taken there to not necessarily rest in peace but to prepare for Ragnarok. After a prophecy  by the Thanes and a dream from Loki (All I pictured was Tom Hiddleson face) he goes on a quest with his friends. Blitzen who is a very fashionable dwarf that loves his clothes and dreams of opening his own store, Hearthstone who is a deaf elf that is estranged from his family and has a love for rune magic, and a former Valkrye Samirah. 

The humor was non stop. The things that went on in Valhalla had be cracking up. One of my favorites was the scene with the two goats and Thor. OMG LOL.  And the powerpoint scence (I won't say for the sake of spoilers) was literally off the wall.

The writing was great and it flowed nicely. On some parts I did feel like it dragged and delayed much of the story but there was other factors that made up for it. All the characters were lovable and relatable  as well. I don't have that much longer to wait for the second one.
